We are thrilled to announce that our new release, the Natalie Grace Syrah, Clone Alban, has won double gold in the 2017 Harvest Challenge!
Our Natalie Grace Syrah, Clone Alban, is 100% Syrah, and was grown at the Harrison Clarke Vineyard in Ballard Canyon.
Clone Alban is kept at a very low yield, and it's strict pruning and deficit irrigation makes it fruit forward with intense fruit characteristics. The fruit intensity is balanced with flavors of coffee, cola, black pepper, and cedar.
The Natalie Grace distinction is one given by our winemaker to his best yields each year. We are proud of this wine, and thrilled that the judges of the 2017 Harvest Challenge awarded our wine the highest honors.
Stop by the tasting room to try our Natalie Grace Syrah, Clone Alban and pick up a bottle.

Cheese of the Month
A semi-firm cheese from La Mancha, Spain, Campo de Montalban resembes a manchego. Manchego is a sheep's milk cheese, while Campo de Montalban is made with a three-milk blend. The cheese exhibits characteristics of all 3 milks, tasting rich and buttery with a perfectly balanced finish.

Our Taylor Noelle Tempranillo will be released next month, and let me be the first to tell you it is wonderful. Before we get into the details of this specific bottle, a quick lesson on Tempranillo.
Tempranillo, as you may have guessed it, is a grape of Spanish origin. It is a red grape variety known for making full-bodied wines. Tempranillo is a diminutive of temprano, or "early", because it ripens several weeks earlier than most Spanish red grapes.
Tempranillo is known for being a well balanced blend of fruity and earthy; and our Taylor Noelle Tempranillo is no exception. I cannot get over how well balanced this wine is. For people who are normally scared off by earthier wines, I urge you to not let that descriptor scare you. This wine packs plenty of fruit- cherries and figs without tasting overtly sweet or cloying.
Perhaps a big selling point for this Tempranillo is how easy it is to pair with food. It will pair well with milder foods, but it also has the ability to compliment spicier foods wonderfully, which is why we will be serving it alongside Paella at our Harvest Party on October 14.
I already have plans to bring a bottle of this Tempranillo to Thanksgiving dinner this year, as I think it is sure to be a hit with all red drinkers. You do not believe me? Try it for yourself! It will be debuting in the tasting room this October, and will be the star of the show at our Harvest Party. Not only will we be serving it alongside Paella from Paella For All Occasions by Chef Billy Tompkins and chocolate from Love Some Chocolate. Those who attend will also have access to a Tempranillo case special, so do not miss out- buy your ticket today!
One bottle is never enough. Somehow this is a lesson I've yet to learn.
I spent this past weekend camping with my boyfriend's family in Leo Carillo, up near Malibu.
Here is a photo taken a short ways away from our campground:
This is where I would post a photo of the growler bag full of Rosé of Grenache that I brought along. The problem? It was gone before I got a chance to take a picture.
I should have known. One 1.5 liter growler bag for 6 adults? No way. One bottle (or bag) is never enough, and leftover wine is never a problem. Needless to say I'll be bringing an army of growler bags with me on my next adventure.
Have you taken our wine on any adventures lately? Let us know! Share your photos with us.
The tallies are in, and our wines are winners!
The Orange County Wine Society awarded our 2013 Chardonnay a gold medal in this year's Commercial Wine Competition. Our 2012 Syrah also faired well, bringing home a silver medal.
The competition, which is a part of the Orange County Fair, is in it's 41st year. The competition is accepted as California's finest and most meticulously judged California-only wine competition.
We are so thrilled to have been awarded a gold and silver medal for our wines! This adds to the list of awards we've received, including recently having two wines on our menu awarded 93 points by Wine Enthusiast.

2016 Rosé of Grenache, Estelle Vineyard, Santa Barbara Our last Rosé of Grenache was a hit, and we think this one is even better. A fruit forward rosé with hints of watermelon and strawberry, this wine is perfect served chilled with a Summer salad or our P'tit Basque. This is one of our kegged wines, so stop by to fill up your growler this July. You can learn more about our growler program here: Growler Program

Cheese of the Month
This sheep's milk cheese from France's Basque region is aged for a minimum of 70 days, during which it develops a basket-weave pattern similiar to that of Spain's Manchego cheese. P'tit Basque has a smooth, sweet flavor with a nutty finish, and pairs wonderfully with our fruit forward Rosé of Grenache.

What is Rosé and who do we get there? Very good question which takes us down a road with many forks. Rosé can be made very sweet, semi-sweet, dry, still, sparkling, from white grapes, from grey grapes and from red grapes. They can be fresh stainless steel immediate same year release wines or aged for almost a decade in large Spanish Casks.
The Estelle Vineyard is in the new Los Olivos District AVA. This region is in the warmer portions of Santa Ynez Valley. The Bordeaux, Rhône and Italian varietals predominate. Grenache from Estelle is intense with a ripe Brix and acid to balance out the wines. The Rosé have a lighter pink color with notes of ripe strawberry, orange, watermelon and sometimes with a hint of allspice.

2016 Rosé of Pinot Noir, Rio Vista Vineyard, Santa Rita Hills Reminiscent of the Summer rosés of Sancerre. The scent of orange zest, watermelon and rose petals leads into a crisp fruit forward rosé with tastes of strawberries, watermelon and tart cherries. A light blush of orange-pink color, this wine pairs well with just about anything. Try it with steaks off the BBQ, shellfish, or a creamy brie.

I have always dreamt of road tripping down the coast of California, and this past week that dream finally became a reality.
We started in my hometown of San Francisco, then took 4 days to make our way back down to where we live in Seal Beach. We converted our 1998 Astro van into a camper by sewing curtains for the windows, squeezing a full sized sleeping mat where the seats should be, and stringing twinkle lights along the ceiling.
The unsung hero of the whole operation was, without a doubt, our growler bag full of Red Blend.
We loaded up the car, threw our growler in the ice chest, and hit the road. Never again will I road trip or camp without one.
We played like kids at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, hiked along the coast every chance we got, explored little towns we'd never heard of, and packed as much as we could into each day. At the end of those days, though, we pulled into a campsite, started a fire, and kicked up our heels, glass of wine in hand.
I've brought a bottle of wine camping exactly one time. I didn't know where to put it, I worried about it getting too hot in the car, I worried about about the glass breaking as it rolled around in the back seat. All these concerns are taken out of the equation with the growler bag. Good wine in an easy to store package, make a beautiful setting that much more relaxing.
Red Blend at the Sunset Sate Beach Campground.
Slightly less full at the Hearst San Simeon State Park Campground.
Refugio State Beach Campground.
Enjoying some wine on the beach.
I highly recommend every campground we stayed at on our trip, as well as everything we did, but my number one piece of advice to you, whether you're driving down the Coast or camping nearby: don't forget the wine.
