2012 Syrah Los Alisos Vineyard, Santa Barbara
Alisos vineyard has perfect sun and soil to produce concentrated Rhône varietals. I have been in this vineyard since 2008.
Clone Estrella on 101-12 Rootstock.
This wine is immediately crushed and destemmed. It is cold soaked and inoculated with GRE which is known for extracting amazing varietal expression in Rhône wines. It was placed into a 50% blending of new French and new American oak, aged for greater than 33 months.
Alisos Vineyard produces dark, inky-purple wines. The nose displays licorice, tea, cola and pepper with a dark cherry or boysenberry fruit. Full bodied with intense flavors mirroring the aromas dominated by spices and boysenberries. Full velvety mouthfeel is accentuated by a prolonged dark berry cola and spice length.
What to eat?
Hearty, rich foods such as roast pork, short ribs and beef tenderloin. Think Crockpot.
