2012 Natalie Grace Grenache Los Alisos Vineyard Santa Barbara
The Alisos vineyard has the right combination of Terroir with rolling hills, sun and soil to produce concentrated Rhône varietals.
Grenache Block 3B, 3.09 acres Clone 3 on its own Rootstock. These grapes were harvested at night by hand.
This wine is immediately crushed and destemmed. It is cold soaked and inoculated with GRE which is known for extracting amazing varietal expression in Rhône wines. There is no extended maceration but as soon as it is dry it is pressed and placed into barrel. It was placed int oa 50% blending of new French and new American oak, aged for greater than 33 months.
The sun exposure at Alisos Vineyard can best be seen with the very rich dark purple color that one finds with this Grenache. Aromas of strawberry candy and cream are contrasted by the darker textural aromas of baking spice and molasses. On the palate, the wine is full bodied with berry pie and vanilla as well as a hint of cola and licorice. The mouthfeel has a silky texture and a persistent length finishing with spicy berry jam.
What to eat?
This wine pairs beautifully with braised meats: pork tenderloin, pot roast & braised short ribs. I also like pairing spicy foods or a spicy hearty stew. If you're trying to find something to match with a country ham try Grenache. In the tasting room we pair this wine with the Triple Crème Brie with Truffles from Marin French Cheese.
